Final grades
All of your scores, your class total, and your final grade are available through the scores link above. Have a look if you are interested.
(You should have received your letter grade from the registrar long ago.)
If you would like to see your final exam (or any of your other papers that I may still have), send me an email, and I will scan it and send it to you.
Apr 26, 2018
Here is an old exam 2 that you can use an example of what to expect for
our exam next week.
Apr 16, 2018
No quiz today. Upcoming, we will have three Arduino quizzes (Wed, Fri, next Mon) to finish out the quizzes for the semester.
Apr 11, 2018
The projects page is available. Be sure to read through it carefully — there is one additional aspect of doing the
projects that I did discuss in class today.

- Just a quick note that today’s quiz will be on structs again. I will ask you to write a function which takes information
from a struct (or structs) and computes something.
- We will not have a quiz on Monday.
- Note that I have put the solutions to some recent quizzes on the GitHub. There is a new Quiz link in the menu bar.
Mar. 22, 2018
Current scores have been posted, up to Quiz 17 and Lab 8. (There is no exam score, yet.)
You should check the listed scores to make certain that they match what was given on your returned
quiz papers and your recollection of your lab work. The "total" was determined by weighting the
quizzes and labs at 50% each, so it is not a direct comparison to your eventual final grade, which
will include exams and project scores. If you are concerned about your current score, come see me.
Mar. 7, 2018
Notice: Today's quiz will be on 2D arrays (like this weeks labs) rather
than strings, as was originally planned.
Mar. 5, 2018
Lab 7 is available. It has two exercises on 2D arrays. (And a quiz.)
Note the slightly different point distribution on the various sections.
Feb. 26, 2018
- Lab 6 is available.
- Here is a copy of an old mid-term
to use in preparing for our upcoming exam.
- TA office hours: Nick Pelland, Mon 1-2; Yue Zhang, Tue 3-4; Yalun Tang, Thu 2-3;
Ben Reichert, Fri 1-2. They will be located in the TLA in Coover.
- Another resource if you are needing some assistance with EE 285 topics: The
HKN help room. The room is staffed by
members of Eta Kappa Nu, the EE/CprE honorary society. Almost anyone working in there should be
able to give you some guidance about C programming matters.
- If you still have not been able to install Visual Studio on your windows machine, Bailey Akers
has made a short tutorial on how to do that with the latest version. Give it a try. If, after
that, you are still having troubles, talk to one of the TAs in lab or during their office hours.
Feb. 11, 2018
Feb. 5, 2018
- We will have career-fair visitors at the beginning of class today.
- Lab 3 is available on the web site.
Feb. 2, 2018
No quiz in class today.
Feb. 1, 2018
Arduino Club tonight: 8:00 p.m. in 2011 Coover. We will be making bareduinos.
There is even web site: ISU Electronics Clubs.
Jan. 29, 2018
Lab 2 is on the web site.
Jan. 22, 2018
Reminder that lab starts this week. The TAs have the lab
and will give it to you at the beginning of your lab time. For this week,
you are expected to do all of the work in lab. It covers that basics of making
a C program that we have been discussing in class. It should be quite easy.
Note that, in lab, you can use your ZyBooks or any class notes that you've taken.
Jan. 19, 2018
Reminder: To get the Zybook that we are using for the
class: 1) Go to zybooks.com. 2) Create an
account. 3) Sign up for our particular book using the code
IASTATEEE285Spring2018. 4) Pay the $58 fee. 5) Start reading the
introductory sections.
Jan. 16, 2018
There are some binary-decimal conversion practice problems
that can be used to prepate for the quiz on Wednesday. Do a bunch of these
to help you get ready. We will keep it simple for this first quiz — focus on numbers
from 1 – 31 decimal. (00001 – 11111 binary). Note that you will not
be allowed to use a calculator on the quiz.
Jan. 8, 2018
Reminder: There is no lab this week. Labs for 285 will start
next week — probably.
Jan. 2, 2018
This is the web site for EE 285 for spring 2018. Note that most of
the material on the other pages of this site is left over from the last time I taught
the class. All of that will be updated over the next few days prior to the start of
classes.
